4 Lessons I’ve learned at the Ditshego Media #SocialMediaMasterClass

I started the first day of February attending a social media master class by Ditshego Media at the Centre of the Book, Cape Town. This class was sponsored by the Department of Arts and Culture and was truly inspirational.

The owner of DM, Tebogo Ditshego, shared great practical knowledge about social media, entrepreneurship and craving an amazing career path. His insights were simple but profound.

My four biggest takeaways were:

  1. Effort is attractive. If you want people to be invested in you, you must be willing to invest in yourself. This doesn’t simply mean money, but also time.
  2. Never underestimate the power of emotion in the decision-making process. Tebogo Ditshego’s direct words were: “Emotions play a fundamental role in decision-making and people make decisions based on the information they have.” Moving forward I will always try to find the other side of the story before making any decision – if a decision is required.
  3. Networking doesn’t have to be insincere (my biggest pet peeve and fear). Show genuine interest in someone, and you may find a greater connection.
  4. You should add value to your customers’ life, but know that value has worth. You are allowed to ask your worth. [Side note: If you are giving people a discount, make sure they know it and isn’t taken aback by the real price.]

This advice feels applicable in life and business.
